Academy of Culinary Design & Operations

What is the Academy of Culinary Design & Operations?
The Academy of Culinary Design & Operations is designed to introduce students to the fundamental skills in culinary arts. Academic and technical studies will be integrated, emphasizing and building proficiency in food production and cooking, cost control, nutrition and sanitation, and workplace safety. Practical work experience will stress sanitation and safety, and include quantity cooking, baking, menu development and preparation. Upon completion of this program, students will have the opportunity to earn industry certification.

Why an Academy?
An Academy integrates college-preparatory curriculum with a career theme. In other words, an Academy offers:
  1. "career-focused curriculum" to a subset of students (school within a school)
  2. by involving teachers from different subjects (college-prep academics)
  3. working together as a team and providing students with exposure (work-place experience)
  4. to their chosen career field (partnerships with local businesses)
Students learn marketable career skills integrated with a rigorous academic program that incorporates technology into the classroom.
