What is Odyssey of the Mind?

Odyssey is an international education program built around offering students creative problem-solving opportunities. Teams use their creativity and critical thinking skills to solve a variety of problems that range from building mechanical devices to interpreting literary classics. Osceola County is dedicated to providing the resources for every elementary and middle school to have the opportunity to host their own teams.

Why Do Odyssey of the Mind?

Odyssey will help students develop team-building skills, learn to examine problems and come up with creative and unique solutions, and have fun while they learn. Teams that participate in the District will be given the opportunity to compete in Regional tournaments and beyond to State-level if they win.

Beyond that, Odyssey of the Mind activities can also be effective and awesome forms of project-based learning that can tie in to many different kinds of curriculum. If you are looking for a great way to actively engage students with fun projects, Odyssey is a great place to begin.

How Do I Get Involved?

If you would like to host a team at your school site, ask your administrator who your site representative is. Teams are always allowed to have extra teachers or parents help the team work on their project, so you will be more than welcome to join it.

Odyssey is also great in the classroom. If you would like to implement Odyssey of the Mind activities in you classroom, check the Odyssey site, contact your Odyssey Team Leader, or contact a District Gifted Resource Teacher if you would like information on how to implement problem-based learning into your classrooms today!
