Ready. Set. Start SMART!
Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day!
-
Recognizing that the most effective learning happens when there is a strong relationship between a student and a great teacher, and knowing that our school district has prioritized recruiting, developing, and retaining great teachers for all of our schools, the Osceola Ready. Set. Start Smart! plan has a strong focus on a return to face-to-face instruction when school begins on August 24. As our school district strongly values parental choice, we are also offering parents two other alternatives so that you can make the best decision for your children and family. Many parents count on us to provide a healthy breakfast and lunch for their children, as well as to care for them consistently while they are working to provide for their family. As such, our plan does not include staggered starts or alternating day schedules for students.
What it does include are clear and reasonable safety protocols that will be implemented to protect both students and staff members as our schools reopen on August 24th.
If you missed the July 15 deadline to submit your choice, your child will be enrolled for face-to-face instruction at this time. If you need to change your selection, you can contact your child’s school starting Monday, September 8, to begin the process. The change will take at least a week to be made. Schools are unable to make any further changes at this time in order to complete student schedules in time for them to be ready on August 17.

What will classrooms look like this year?
When schools do resume face-to-face classes, things will look a lot different than what we’re used to in order to protect students, teachers, administrators, and staff and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
-
What will a cafeteria look like this year?
Feeding children is what we do; and COVID-19 has just meant that we have to make some adjustments to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. One thing we know for sure: School meals will become increasingly integral to child nutrition as families continue to grapple with pandemic-related unemployment and financial hardships.
-
What will a school bus look like this year?
While the number of students who ride the bus will be smaller, as some students are learning digitally, the district still has to think through logistics to keep students, bus drivers, and bus attendants safe and healthy to and from school.
-
What will cleaning and sanitizing look like this year?
Keeping our schools clean and disinfected will be of critical importance to ensure our students and staff are healthy and ready to learn and teach.
-
What will response to COVID-19 look like this year?
While our back to school protocols rely heavily on face coverings for students and staff, daily self-screenings for COVID-19 symptoms, social distancing, and hand washing and sanitizing, we understand there may come a time when someone tests positive for COVID-19.
