Both were recognized among other school-based Business Partners of the Year at an event on May 12 for building successful, innovative alliances with the Osceola School District that fostered unique learning opportunities, promoted academic achievement, and addressed community needs. Osceola County School Board Members and Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace were on hand at the event to honor and recognize the outstanding school and community partnerships.

Nemours Children's Health System is a stand-out partner when it comes to the health of Osceola County students. Every month, Nemours provides physicians to assist with the training of the district’s school nurses. They also open up their staff medical trainings to include the district school nurses. Annually, Nemours puts on a one-day conference free of charge for school nurses to interact with physicians and receive hands-on trainings. In addition, Nemours has made medical specialists and a diabetes educator available to school nurses so that the school district can provide the best care for all of the children.

The Osceola County Food Angels began as a resource to help the needy and Families in Transition students of Osceola County. Realizing there was a need to provide food for students during times when school was not in session, a group of local area restaurant managers joined forces to create a non-profit organization in October 2014 to collect food and monetary donations. To date, the Food Angels have worked with local businesses to donate over 290,000 food items to Osceola’s students and provided assistance to students and families in times of emergencies by working through school social workers. The collected donations also go to stock four high school food pantries. Volunteer Food Angels collect the food, shop, organize and box the items, and deliver it wherever needed in the school district.
