Areas of Study

Areas of Study are designed to help students (and their parents) make wise education choices.  It is based on the belief that the curricula of the 21st century should combine rigorous academics with relevant career education.  When schools integrate academic and technical education, students can see the "usefulness" of what they are learning.  The system also facilitates a seamless transition from secondary to postsecondary opportunities.

This initiative uses the sixteen federally defined Career Clusters.  Career Clusters are an organizational tool that link education with business and industry.  The 16 clusters have been adopted by the U.S. Department of Education as a mechanism to revitalize career and technical education by integrating rigorous academics with relevant technical content.  Career Clusters enable students to explore several career options within a field of interest and provide a seamless transition from education to career in this era of changing workplace demands.  These 16 broad Career Clusters consists of entry-level through professional-level occupations in a broad industry area.  Each cluster includes the academic and technical skills and knowledge needed for further education and careers.

Clusters are a great organizational tool for educators, counselors, parents, and students in their search for career information.  They show the relationship between what students learn in school with the knowledge and skills they need for success in further education/training and careers.

Osceola County's Career and Technical Areas of Study have been categorized according to the 16 Career Clusters to prepare today's students for tomorrow's technological advances and global competition that have transformed the nature of work.

Below are the 16 Career Clusters with an overview of each.  If you answer yes to two or more of the questions in a particular cluster, you might be interested in considering a career in that particular area of study.  Select a cluster icon below to view more information related to the Career Cluster.
