Three St. Cloud High Students Earn Medals At FCCLA Competition

Photo of three SCHS Students.Three St. Cloud High students were among over 4,200 STAR Event participants who competed at this year’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference and Competition in Nashville, Tennessee, in July 2017. The following students brought home national awards to Osceola County:
• Gold Medals: Katie Herlihy and Hannah Smith competed in the Chapter in Review Manual event, and their project focused on planning an effective Program of Work via projects throughout the school and preparing a portfolio to present to the judges.
• Silver Medal: Veronica Holzhausen competed in the Early Childhood Education event, and also represented Florida as the state Vice-President of Management. Her project focused on planning and preparing a developmentally-appropriate lesson for children ages 4-5 and presenting her portfolio to the judges.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective career and technical student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA offers over 30 STAR [Students Taking Action with Recognition] Events that represent college and career readiness skills taught in Family and Consumer Sciences classrooms.
