T-Mobile Be Empowered ImageThe Osceola County School Board feels strongly that every student needs access to digital resources to succeed academically and to build the technology skillset that will help them be successful. As such, the Osceola School District is proud to announce that a $300,000 award has been given to the Osceola School District through T-Mobile’s EmpowerED™ program to provide students the technology and tools they need to keep up in today’s fast-paced digital economy.
This award will provide funds to help purchase 1,100 laptops for the students at Discovery Intermediate to be used during school instruction and at home during the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, all Discovery Intermediate School students will receive unlimited 4G Wi-Fi hotspots providing high-speed internet for homework and studies. Four hundred additional hotspots will also be split between Liberty High School and Poinciana High School for students to check out in the schools’ media centers. The program of 1:1 devices and hotspots will be rolled out several weeks after the start of school on August 12, 2019.
“We are so thankful for our T-Mobile partnership, which will aid us in closing the gap in technology and connectivity that exists in our schools and homes in Osceola County,” said Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace. “Many of our Osceola students will now have reliable high-speed internet access and devices in order to complete homework assignments, to do research, and to stay on track with their studies. This is another example of our goal to provide every child with every chance every day.”
“T-Mobile is proud to support the students of Osceola County with this EmpowerED award to provide internet access and devices that students can use at home to close the homework gap,” said Dave Bezzant, senior director of T-Mobile for Government. “Students represent our future leaders and each of them deserves the tools they need to be successful today. It is an honor for us at T-Mobile to provide these resources to the youth who need it most!”
