Photo of adult putting lunch and apple into a child's backpackWhile the Osceola School District ensures that children are well-fed during the week at school, weekends can prove particularly daunting for many Osceola County families when it comes to the lack of food for meals. Luckily, community businesses and organizations such as the Celebration Foundation, Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, AdventHealth, SuperValue, Save-A-Lot, Osceola Connected, St. Cloud Cares, Presentation Brothers, and many donors have stepped up to provide weekend food and snacks for Osceola County students in need.

Pallets of food, purchased by the Celebration Foundation through a grant from Osceola County and AdventHealth, will arrive to the district’s warehouse mid-September. Schools will receive the food, and volunteers will assemble the food into bags that will go home with hundreds of school children across the district for the weekends. In addition, cases will be delivered to every elementary school to help teachers start the year with individual snack items, such as granola bars, to provide to students when they come to school hungry.

“Hunger has a negative impact on a student’s ability to succeed,” said Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace. “I am so grateful that the Celebration Foundation, Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, AdventHealth, and our other partners are ensuring every child has reliable access to the healthy food they need to learn and grow.”
