On Thursday, March 9, the School District of Osceola County named our Teacher of the Year and School-Related Employee of the Year at the annual Education Awards, which Williams Company sponsored. The event, emceed by Spectrum News 13's meteorologist Maureen McCann, celebrated over 120 nominees while honoring the top 10 finalists in each respective category. The Education Awards is my favorite event of the year because it marks the incredible impacts our teachers and support professionals make throughout the district daily. Getting to hear directly from the finalists about their unique approaches to their positions shows how we shine as a district when everyone works together to achieve the same common goal.

At the conclusion of the night, Tiffany Perry, fifth grade teacher at East Lake Elementary, was named Teacher of the Year, and Janae Muchmore, Community Relations Specialist, was named the district's School-Related Employee of the Year.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, nominees, finalists, and winners went home with fantastic prize packages.

Teacher of the Year – Tiffany Perry

Mrs. Perry is a dynamic fifth grade teacher at East Lake Elementary. She prides herself on getting to know her students on a deeper level and connecting with them in a safe environment where they can be their authentic selves. She prefers that her students speak more than her in the classroom to teach critical thinking and reasoning. 

"My biggest realization has been that it is not my job to have all the answers but to get out of my students' way. They are capable of so many things and have unique perspectives. If I can show them how to be flexible and find resources, they will leave by classroom with so much more than memorized facts. It is my responsibility to give them chances to feel successful and to help them understand that they don't have to change who they are to make that happen," said Perry.

William Hennessy, principal at East Lake Elementary, knows that Mrs. Perry is an asset to his school, saying, "Mrs. Perry is a once-in-a-lifetime teacher whom her students will no doubt remember for the rest of their days. She makes this impact by building amazing relationships with her students that are unmatched and unrivaled. Her belief in her students is unwavering."

Mrs. Perry's name was submitted to the Florida Department of Education's 2024 Teacher of the Year judging committee. The state winner will be selected this summer.

School-Related Employee of the Year – Janae Muchmore

As a former news reporter, Janae has a passion for telling inspiring, engaging stories. Ms. Muchmore joined the Osceola School District in early 2021 and positively impacted the district's social media presence. Janae is often out and about around the district, highlighting the fantastic students, staff, and programs in her "Share Your Great" series. These stories are short glimpses, two to three minutes in length, into our classrooms so that parents and community members can learn about the wonderful things our educators and staff are doing to enhance our student's educational experiences and opportunities.

Dana Schafer, the Public Information Officer for the district says about Janae, "She has a knack for finding human interest and connecting to stakeholders to further the district's strategic communications efforts. She has expanded the district's engagement on social media making the Osceola School District a leader in school communications across the state."

Ms. Muchmore also assists schools with their social media pages. This assistance can range from just helping someone gain access to the accounts to setting up and establishing a social media presence for a new school and training the correct staff members. Understanding that many parents and community members turn to social media for news, Janae works with the schools to ensure that any essential communications are posted promptly and are clear and concise with all the relevant information.

Ms. Muchmore's name was submitted to the Florida Department of Education's 2023 School-Related Employee of the Year judging committee. The state winner will be selected within the next few months.

El jueves 9 de marzo, el Distrito Escolar del Condado Osceola nombró al Maestro del Año y al Empleado Escolar del Año en la entrega anual de los Premios de Educación, patrocinada por Williams Company. El evento, conducido por Maureen McCann, meteoróloga de Spectrum News 13, premió a más de 120 nominados y a los 10 finalistas de cada categoría. Los Premios de Educación son mi evento favorito del año porque ponen de manifiesto el increíble impacto que nuestros profesores y profesionales de apoyo tienen a diario en todo el distrito. Escuchar directamente a los finalistas hablar de sus enfoques únicos de sus puestos muestra cómo brillamos como distrito cuando todos trabajamos juntos para lograr el mismo objetivo común.

Al final de la noche, Tiffany Perry, maestra de quinto grado de East Lake Elementary, fue nombrada Maestra del Año, y Janae Muchmore, especialista en relaciones comunitarias, fue nombrada Empleada Escolar del Año del distrito.

Maestra del Año – Tiffany Perry

La Sra. Perry es una dinámica maestra de quinto grado en East Lake Elementary. Ella se enorgullece de llegar a conocer a sus estudiantes en un nivel más profundo y la conexión con ellos en un ambiente seguro donde pueden ser auténticos. Prefiere que sus alumnos hablen más que ella en clase para enseñarles pensamiento crítico y razonamiento. 

"Me he dado cuenta de que mi trabajo no consiste en tener todas las respuestas, sino en apartarme del camino de mis alumnos. Son capaces de tantas cosas y tienen perspectivas únicas. Si les enseño a ser flexibles y a encontrar recursos, saldrán de clase con mucho más que datos memorizados. Es mi responsabilidad darles oportunidades para que se sientan exitosos y ayudarles a entender que no tienen que cambiar lo que son para lograrlo", expresó Perry.

William Hennessy, director de East Lake Elementary, sabe que la Sra. Perry es un activo para su escuela, al expresar: "La Sra. Perry es una maestra única, a quien sus alumnos sin duda recordarán por el resto de sus vidas. Ella logra este impacto mediante la construcción de increíbles relaciones con sus estudiantes que son incomparables y sin igual. Su fe en sus alumnos es inquebrantable".

El nombre de la Sra. Perry fue presentado al comité de jueces del Maestro del Año 2024 del Departamento de Educación de Florida. El ganador estatal será seleccionado este verano.

Empleado escolar del año – Janae Muchmore

Como ex reportera de noticias, Janae tiene una pasión por contar historias inspiradoras y atractivas. La Srta. Muchmore se unió al Distrito Escolar de Osceola a principios de 2021 y tuvo un impacto positivo en la presencia del distrito en los medios sociales. Janae está a menudo fuera y alrededor del distrito, destacando los fantásticos estudiantes, personal y programas en su serie "Share Your Great". Estas historias son breves vislumbres, de dos a tres minutos de duración, en nuestras aulas para que los padres y miembros de la comunidad pueden aprender acerca de las cosas maravillosas que nuestros educadores y el personal están haciendo para mejorar las experiencias educativas de nuestros estudiantes y oportunidades.

Dana Schafer, jefa de información pública del distrito, expresó lo siguiente sobre Janae: "Tiene un don para encontrar el interés humano y conectar con las partes interesadas para promover los esfuerzos de comunicación estratégica del distrito. Ha ampliado la participación del distrito en las redes sociales haciendo del Distrito Escolar de Osceola un líder en comunicaciones escolares en todo el estado".

La Sra. Muchmore también ayuda a las escuelas con sus páginas de medios sociales. Esta asistencia puede ir desde ayudar a alguien a acceder a las cuentas hasta configurar y establecer una presencia en los medios sociales para una nueva escuela y formar a los miembros correctos del personal. Janae es consciente de que muchos padres y miembros de la comunidad acuden a las redes sociales en busca de noticias, por lo que trabaja con las escuelas para garantizar que las comunicaciones esenciales se publiquen con prontitud y sean claras y concisas, con toda la información pertinente.

El nombre de la Srta. Muchmore fue presentado al comité de jueces del Empleado Escolar del Año 2023 del Departamento de Educación de Florida. El ganador estatal será seleccionado en los próximos meses.
