Welcome to the 2024/2025 school year, a year for Explorers to cruise towards success. As the proud Principal of Discovery Intermediate School, I want to welcome you to what I consider the best middle school in Osceola County, although I do admit that I am a tad biased when I say that. At Discovery, you will find an amazing team of leaders, teachers, and students, all working together to ensure that we all continue to grow and learn to become better than we were before. It is our motto that perfection is not the anticipated outcome of this school year, just progress.
Speaking of progress, I want to take a moment to share some of the highlights from last school year. When it comes to academic growth, we saw great improvement in all areas and earned the highest percentage of possible state points in the history of the school. I also want to give a huge shout-out to all of our students for earning some of the highest learning gains in the District. In terms of behavior, Discovery had the lowest number of discipline incidents out of all traditional middle schools in the county! I am so proud of all the amazing accomplishments of our Explorer Community! Explorers always rise to the occasion and I can not wait to see what we do, working together, during the 2024/2025 school year!
As we enter the upcoming school year, I want all community members to join me in ensuring that we continue to work together to create another successful school year. This year, it is imperative that students are coming to school prepared, engaging in the lessons that teachers are presenting, completing assignments, and focusing on academic success. As the Principal, I promise you that I will work closely with our staff to ensure that we continue to keep student success at the center of every decision that is made on our campus. We will continue to work on building a positive culture and ensuring that all students feel safe and valued. In order for us to continue to create success, it is so important for students and parents to “see something, say something” and to always reach out to me if you have any concerns or questions. I always tell my staff and the students that if I don’t know it is happening, I can’t work on fixing it. I want all of my staff, students, and families to know that I value each of you and don’t take my responsibility lightly.
2024/2025 is going to be an amazing school year! We will continue to build on the successes of last school year and continue to make progress. I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to make Discovery a school that should be heard, seen, and celebrated! Working together, we are going to accomplish great things!
As I tell the students every day, I love each and every one of you! Let’s make it a great day!
Mr. Gary Dunn III,
Principal
