Greetings Challengers!
And Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!!
Greetings Challenger Family, I hope that all our families enjoyed their summer and I know that our students are ready to come back to school. I am excited to once again lead Deerwood Elementary this year and continue to work with our families to grow our students socially and academically. It has been an honor to serve our community for the past 5 years and I continue to be grateful to be the Principal of Deerwood Elementary.
I am proud to announce that due to the challenging work of our students, our teachers, our staff, and our parent support, Deerwood has improved academically and gained a total of 161 points and earned a grade of a “C” from the Florida Department of Education. Deerwood was only 35 points away from earning a “B”. This is amazing, considering if school grades were official for the 2020-2021 school year, Deerwood would have earned a grade of an “F”. I am blessed to have the teachers and staff that have the dedication, perseverance, and resilience every day to meet the needs of each individual child.
For 2022-2023, our focus will be on closing the achievement and attitude gap. I am challenging our staff and students to reflect and challenge themselves to show why they believe in themselves and that every student can and will learn. I expect that our staff will continue to build positive relationships with our students and our families.
Our students will be working with our teachers to set their academic and personal goals that will be monitored and celebrated. We will be conducting student-led conferences this year where our students will share with their parents how they are meeting their goals and what support can be given at home and at school. Our theme this year is Believe: No excuses! I am ready to have another successful year together as a family.
Sincerely,
Mr. Confesor and Ms. Centeno
Principal and Assistant Principal
