Hello, my name is Mrs. Akers; welcome to our KMS Theatre webpage!  I truly believe in the power of Theatre to bring out the best in everyone - I know it did for me!  In each of our Theatre classes, students collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically.

Theatre classes at KMS focus on building skills in self-confidence, collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving, and empathy. As far as specific Theatre skills, our classes involve learning how to speak in front of an audience, acting techniques, theatre design and artwork, and story-building.
  • Theatre 1
    (6th-8th grade)
In this project-based and teamwork-driven course, students will gain confidence in speaking and presenting in front of an audience.  This will be achieved through the learning of basic acting and presenting skills, as well as beginner-level theatrical design.

    Theatre 2
(7th-8th grade, must have completed Theatre 1 or comparable course at a different school)
This course is for students who have taken Theatre 1 and want to continue to study Theatre in a more in-depth year of learning.  With a focus on building acting skills, this class explores actor warm-up methods, improvisation, theatre as a method to access emotions, technical theatre elements, and even a Shakespeare play!  It's a busy year full of engaging, fun, project-based learning opportunities.

    Theatre 3
(8th grade only, must have completed Theatre 1 & 2 or comparable courses at a different school)
This course is for students who want to pursue Theatre in high school (and maybe beyond).  This project-based class explores creativity, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving in a student-led (and teacher-supported) environment.  This class will ask you to take creative risks, improvise creative solutions, and present your work in front of real audiences.
