• COLLEGE COUNSELING TIMELINE

    NeoCity Academy's college counseling program is a truly individualized, four-year program. Over the course of four years, each student at NeoCity Academy will receive over 20 hours of college counseling from our program. It is because of this personal attention and dedicated time spent with each student that NeoCity Academy has been able to achieve a 100% college acceptance rate.

    Here is the breakdown of NeoCity Academy's four-year college counseling program. In each year, students will:


  • FRESHMEN YEAR

    • Attend group sessions with the college counselor each semester.
    • Take PSAT (practice) in October.
    • Review rank-order criteria colleges use to make admissions decisions.
    • Take AP Exams in May.
    • Create student Digital Portfolio.

    SOPHOMORE YEAR

    • Opportunity to attend a College Fair.
    • Take PSAT (practice) in October.
    • Attend group session with college counselor in the first semester.
    • Complete a personal college search inventory.
    • Take AP Exams in May.
    • Update student Digital Portfolio.
  • JUNIOR YEAR

    • Opportunity to attend a College Fair.
    • Attend a Junior Seminar for College Counseling to review in detail the mechanics of the college search and application process.
    • Meet college admission officers who visit NeoCity Academy.
    • Have parents attend the Parent U College Night.
    • Schedule college visits during Spring Break and other school vacations.
    • Take PSAT in October.
    • Take ACT School Day in October.
    • Attend individual sessions with the college counselor to review PSAT scores, discuss SAT and ACT plan, and to develop a college list (ideally 5-7 schools across the reach, good fit, and safety categories).
    • Take standardized tests in the second semester.
    • Attend Junior Family College Info Night in the spring to review the college application process and the college list.
    • Take AP Exams in May.
    • Update student Digital Portfolio.

    SENIOR YEAR

    • Opportunity to attend a College Fair.
    • Submit student Digital Portfolio in the Fall.
    • Attend College Application Workshop with college counselor in September.
    • Take SAT School Day in October.
    • Meet college admissions officers who visit NeoCity Academy.
    • Get college recommendation letters written in August-October (Xello).
    • Participate in College Application Essay Workshops hosted by English Department.
    • Make October 31 deadline for requesting and completing all college applications.
    • Await admissions decisions from the collleges and universities.
    • Choose a college by National Candidate Reply Date on May 1.
    • Take AP Exams in May.
