VPK School Year and Summer Program Models

  • School Year Program- 540 instructional hours

    Lead instructor must have training equal to a Child Development Associate credential or greater

    • Classes can have a maximum of 11 students with one lead instructor or a maximum of 20 students with a lead instructor and a paraprofessional.
    • Children in the VPK Program receive a high-quality learning experience with teachers who meet educational standards set by the state.
    • Children are prepared to be ready for kindergarten based upon the statewide kindergarten screening Curriculum that enhances the age-appropriate progress of students in attaining the VPK Education Standards.

    Title I Program

    Title I VPK is a federally-funded full day VPK program for four-year-old children who reside in select Title I school zones in Osceola County.

    Dual Language VPK

    Children spend half the day learning in English and half the day learning in Spanish. Children in this program apply for the K-5 dual language program at the school. The 2017-2018 sites for dual language instruction are Boggy Creek Elementary, Chestnut Elementary, East Lake Elementary, Kissimmee Elementary, Thacker Avenue Elementary for International Studies and Ventura Elementary.

    Blended VPK

    The Blended VPK classrooms are comprised of nine basic education students and nine exceptional education students.  The VPK students are role models for students with special needs as they work and learn together. ESE students are identified as having delays in the development of cognitive, language, motor and/or social emotional skills.  The goal of the VPK program is to better prepare all students for Kindergarten while providing an inclusive environment.  This model is staffed with an ESE teacher and a VPK instructor (Child Development Associate).

    Summer Program- 300 instructional hours

    • The lead instructor must be a teacher with a valid teaching certificate.​
    • Classes can have a maximum of 12 students with one lead instructor.
    • Children in the VPK Program receive a high-quality learning experience with teachers who meet educational standards set by the state.
    • Children are prepared to be ready for kindergarten based upon the statewide kindergarten screening Curriculum curriculum that enhances the age-appropriate progress of students in attaining the VPK Education Standards.

    VPK/ Early Learning Labs (at select High Schools)

    Provides 3 hours of free VPK plus the option of an additional 3 hours of instruction funded through tuition. High school students enrolled in the Early Childhood program at the high school  work directly with the VPK students throughout the day.
