Florida's Classroom Teacher Tuition Waiver Program

  • Pursuant to Section 1009.26(10), Florida Statutes and State University System of Florida Board of Governors Rule 7.008 (F), a classroom teacher in a Florida public school is eligible to use the Classroom Teacher Waiver.

The Classroom Teacher Waiver Program covers in-state tuition up to six (6) credit hours.

The Classroom Teacher Waiver can apply to undergraduate courses in the areas of Special Education, Math, or Science that have been approved by the Florida Department of Education.

Any additional special laboratory or other required fees must be paid by the participating classroom teacher according to the terms and conditions at the Florida institution of higher learning where the participant is enrolled.

    The following general restrictions apply:

    • The Classroom Teacher Waiver cannot be used for courses scheduled during the school district’s regular school day schedule.
    • Courses must be taken for a grade; courses may not be taken as audit.
    • The Classroom Teacher Waiver is for the current term of registration only.
    • All students are required to meet the course prerequisite requirements.

The Classroom Teacher Waiver can only apply to courses the student indicates on the approval form for the Florida institution of higher learning where the participating classroom teacher is enrolled.

To be eligible to use a Classroom Teacher Waiver at most Florida institutions of higher learning, the participating classroom teacher must submit an employment verification from the School District as a full-time classroom teacher.

After enrolling, participating classroom teachers should submit their completed Classroom Teacher Waiver and verification of employment to the Florida institution of higher learning where the participating classroom teacher is enrolled.
